An amazing project for uMake.ca to be part of.
We had just 5 weeks — start to manufacture to install — to bring Qillaniq to life, working alongside the incredible design firm reimagine.ca.
uMake.ca fabricated the entire project in-house and led the on-site assembly at the National Gallery of Canada. A huge shout-out to Marco Facciola, who project-managed the build from start to finish.
Translating a 3D model into a 40 ft diameter structure is no small feat — especially when every single piece is custom and unique. Even cutting the pieces and packing the pallets and trucks had to follow a precise numerical sequence, so the assembly order lined up perfectly on site. A lot of planning (and on-site troubleshooting) goes into pulling off an installation like this.
